Art lovers will discover that Madrid is always brimming with creativity, and there are plenty of temporary art exhibitions displaying works belonging to all kinds of art movements. That’s the reason why in Génova cinco we recommend you to visit some of these shows and exhibitions in our city that you shouldn’t miss! Besides, they are free.

Pongamos que hablo de Madrid

This exhibit by Fernando Castro Flórez, intended to be permanent, is on at the Museo Municipal de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid (Noviciado underground line).

99 pieces tell the story of contemporary art in Madrid in the last four decades.

Works by thirty-nine authors are on display, including paintings, photographs, drawings and other visuals.

Museo Reina Sofía

And speaking of exhibitions that are worth a visit, Museo Reina Sofía has a great modernist collection, the first of five collections from different periods arranged in chronological order.

You can enjoy there watching Guernica, works by Salvador Dalí and the painting and anti-painting of Miró.

Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza

The collection of Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemusza is radically different from those in other Spanish museums.

It features a rich assortment of 15th century  portraits, works by Jan Van Eyck or paintings from the Trecento. The museum halls also host works by Durero, Caravaggio, Rubens, Frans Hals, Monet, Gauguin, Van Gogh and Kandinsky.

Surrealism, expressionism, romanticism, impressionism… the exquisite collection of this museum is made up by a number of works.

Madrid Gráfica 2020. COVID Exit

Matadero Madrid, meeting point for art and design enthusiasts, has become the perfect stage for a great exhibition with a very special theme this year: COVID Exit.

To organize this, the designer association DIMAD and the Madrid city council have joined forces, with the support of the collaborative platform Foro de Empresas por Madrid, in order to get several designers to captivate us with their posters.

You can visit it until 1st December, 2020.

La palabra dibujada

Another great exhibition in Matadero Madrid is this journey through the work of artist José María Fernández. You can find Matadero Madrid in Legazpi.

Pájaros en la cabeza

This exhibition of Iñaki Díez Cortaberría’s work is presented in Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales de Madrid, in Paseo de Castellana.

It’s composed of the last works completed by the painter as a scientific illustrator to collaborate with the museum. You will wonder at the watercolour paintings and the scientific illustrations for the project Fauna Ibérica.

This exhibition can be visited until 29th November, 2020.

La belleza del cosmos

Spanish National Library, in Recoletos quarter, exhibits an amazing gem dedicated to Emperor Charles V: Astronomicum Caesareum, a book by Petrus Apianus, published in 1540.

Not only is it considered a printing masterpiece, but it also summarizes Apianus’s knowledge on astronomy and the instruments that were used in the 19th century.

Exposición Botero. 60 años de pintura

This exhibition, presented in the CentroCentro of Cibeles palace, displays the biggest monographic show about Botero and his work in Spain.

In CentroCentro you can set off on a journey through six out of the seven decades in the author’s career, as well as classic subjects in art history: Latin America, versions of great artists’ masterpieces, religion, the world of circus and bullfighting.
