Christmas, the time of the year when the capital glows, is just around the corner.

We at Génova 5, have prepared a list of the best Christmas activities for you to enjoy in Madrid.

Christmas lights show in Madrid

The Christmas lights show in Madrid is one of its biggest attractions. The whole city becomes illuminated from 24 November at 19:00 until 6 January 2023.

The lights show consists of 6,700 light strings, 115 cherry trees and 13 luminous Christmas trees. This is a spectacular light show.

Don’t miss the giant Christmas tree in the Plaza de España, it is the highlight of this year’s show.

Time for the lights show: Sunday to Thursday: 6pm to midnight; Friday and Saturday: 6pm to 1am; 24 December and 5 January: 6pm to 3am and 31 December: 6pm to 6am.

Naviluz

The bus that travels through the main streets of the centre of Madrid to enjoy the Christmas lights. An entertaining and different way to see Christmas.

This year, Naviluz will run from 25 November to 6 January 2023.

The tour starts at the Jardines del Descubrimiento and ends at Plaza de Colón (5 minutes’ walk from our flats). Tickets for Naviluz can only be purchased online at the following link: www.naviluz.es

Christmas market at Plaza Mayor

An absolute must, a visit to the Christmas market in the Plaza Mayor is essential. You can visit it from 25 November to 31 December.

The market has red stalls where you can really feel the Christmas atmosphere. If you are looking for figurines for the Nativity Scene, a Christmas tree or Christmas decorations, this is the place for you.

Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday from 10am to 9pm | Friday, Saturday and eve of public holidays from 10am to 10pm.

Cortylandia  

Cortylandia is a classic Christmas show for children (and not only children), which is now in its 45th year.

It’s hosted by El Corte Inglés in its building in Preciados. It’s a completely free show that lasts 15 minutes. This year’s story is about a music band made up of animals based on old designs from the 30s and 50s.

The show opens on 2 December and ends on 5 January 2023.

The Christmas Park

Las “Mágicas Navidad de Torrejón” has changed its name to The Christmas Park (El Parque de la Navidad). A park created with Christmas in mind, you can’t miss it.

If you go by car, there is a large car park with 3,000 parking spaces. You can also use public transport if you prefer, the area is very well located.

People residing in Torrejón de Ardoz can get their free ticket online, while those who are not registered in Torrejón de Ardoz will pay between €2 and €4 per ticket.
