Temperatures drop, the ground is covered with fallen leaves, Madrid turns orange and yellow, it starts to smell of churros with chocolate and rain…

Autumn is a fabulous time to visit the Spanish capital city without the suffocating heat of summer or the devastating cold of winter.

From Génova 5 we want you to make the most of your stay while staying in our apartments, so we have put together a list of the best places to visit in Madrid in autumn.

The Gardens of Aranjuez

These gardens have always been a source of inspiration for many artists because of their unparalleled beauty, and quite right too. It is well worth wandering through its paths.

The gardens of Aranjuez are part of the Cultural Landscape of Aranjuez, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2021.

However, we would recommend you to visit not only the gardens, but also the whole town of Aranjuez. If you want to know more charming villages in Madrid, don’t miss this post.

El Capricho park

It is located in the district of Barajas, in the Alameda de Osuna quarter. It is recognised as one of the most beautiful parks in Madrid and we assure you that it truly deserves that title.

It belongs to Madrid’s Romantic period and as you enter you will discover touches of three different styles of design: French, English and Italian. This work of art turned park presents a unique autumn scene.

Campo del Moro gardens

Created by Philip II, its name refers to the attempt to reconquer Madrid by Alí Ben Yusuf in 1109.

If you are looking for a place where peace reigns, this is the place for you. These gardens are chosen by the locals for moments of reflection and rest, as they are not very popular among tourists.

These English-style gardens are located behind the Royal Palace, next to Madrid Río. They can be accessed from the Paseo de la Virgen del Puerto.

Montejo beech forest

It is a beech forest in the municipality of Montejo de la Sierra, in the north of Madrid. Its surroundings are very well cared for and to access you need a free entrance ticket, which can only be acquired online at the following link: https://www.sierradelrincon.org/

You cannot visit the forest on your own, there is only the option of a guided tour (free of charge). This visit is a must in autumn, due to the beauty of the landscape and the charm of the shades of the trees.

Royal Botanical Garden

This green lung is located next to the Prado Museum and has more than 5,000 species of plants and trees.

It is made up of four terraces on different levels, where all the different species are distributed. If you decide to visit it, you will probably find some very interesting temporary exhibitions in the upper area.
